Cask Ales
We are a dedicated cask ale pub with six pumps, including a bank of four Gaskell and Chambers pumps from 1932 taking centre stage. Click on the pump clips for tasting notes.
Regular Beers
Four of our pumps carry regular bitters, so you can usually expect to find:
Robinsons Dizzy Blonde (3.8%) a light summery ale with a crisp citrus taste. Originally introduced as a seasonal beer, this has proved so popular it now has a permanent place on the bar.
Hartleys Cumbria Way (4.1%) a pale golden bitter with a strong malt and hoppy taste. Brewed for the Robinsons estate in Cumbria with the taste of a traditional lakeland ale.
Hartleys XB (4.0%) a tart pale golden bitter, rich rounded body, smooth bitterness with a tang of malt and a dry acidic finish. A perennial favourite with us and our biggest selling bitter.
Robinsons Double Hop (5.0%) rich golden full-bodied premium ale with strong hop flavour and bitterness, with lingering tangy malt and zesty fruit finish.
Changing Beers
Our other two pumps feature a changing beers, either one of Robinsons regular beers or their seasonal brew. You might find some of the following.
Robinsons Unicorn (4.2%) a golden best bitter with tart fruity aroma and full spicy malt and hop bitterness and a nicely balanced dry finish with citrus notes.
Robinsons Old Stockport (3.5%) a light session bitter with a clean, refreshing taste, balanced malt, hop and citrus flavours with a short dry bitter-sweet finish.
Robinsons Old Tom (8.5%) award-winning dark, rich and warming strong ale, with smokey roasted nut and chocolate flavours. Usually available between Christmas and New Year.
Robinsons Hatters (3.3%) easy drinking full-bodied traditional mild, with nutty biscuit roasted malt flavours, delicate hop aromas and a soft, smooth finish with malt and hop notes.
Robinsons Long Kiss Goodnight (4.3%) full-bodied ruby red bitter inspired by 1940's Hollywood glamour, with a rich biscuit and hoppy palate, and floral spicy hop, malt and toffee aroma. Available January and February 2012.
We now also have two-pint take away cartons available so you can enjoy your favourite draught beer at home.
Draught Beers
Carling lager (4.1%) made using only British Barley, with refreshing fruit notes.
Veltins pilsner lager (4.8%) brewed by 180-year old family brewers in northwest Germany to the rigourous 16th century German purity laws. Pale golden in colour with fresh citrus aroma, hop bitterness and a dry finish.
Strongbow cider (4.5%) produced from a blend of bitter-sweet cider and culinary apples to give a well-rounded balanced dry cider.
Westons Stowford Press cider (4.5%) produced in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle since 1880, is off-dry and delightfully refreshing.
Guinness (4.1%) needs little introduction. Dark and creamy with notes of roasted barley and coffee. Available in regular and extra cold versions.
Bottled Beers
World Craft Beers
We have a range of bottled craft beers available:
Goose Island India Pale Ale (5.9%), a classic beer style from Chicago, with a fruity aroma, dry malt middle and a long hop finish.
312 Urban Wheat Ale (4.2%), refreshing smooth creamy body, crisp fruity ale flavour and spicy Cascade hop aroma in this wheat beer from Chicago.
Westmalle Dubbel (7.0%), the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle, near Antwerp in Belgium, has been brewing beer for over 150 years. A dark reddish-brown beer with a creamy, fragrant head and a rich complex herb and fruit finish.
Budweiser Budvar (5.0%), this Czech original is made from the finest Saaz hops, pure spring water and special Morovian barley to provide a finely hopped beer with gentle to medium bitterness and a golden hue.
Liefmans Fruitesse (4.2%), a unique fresh beer blend which matures for 18 months on cherries in the Liefmans cellars,combining the natural juices for strawberry, raspberry, cherry, blueberry and juniper berries.A sweet and fruity beer from Belgium.
Rekorderlig Wild Berries (4.0%), this cider is made from the purest Swedish spring water and bursting with fresh fruit flavours.

We also stock Corona, Guinness Original, Bulmers: Original, Pear and No. 17, WKD Blue, Becks, Budweiser, Holstein Pils and Peroni.
Wine
We have a selection of red, white, rosé and sparkling wines available. All available in 125ml, 175ml or 250ml glasses or by the 750ml bottle unless otherwise stated.
White
Urmeneta Sauvignon Blanc (Chilean, 12%). Light fresh pale-straw coloured wine with vibrant tropical fruit flavours.
Frederico Pinot Grigio (Italian, 12.5%). Ripe and inviting with fragrant zesty fresh fruit notes.
Urmeneta Chardonnay (Chilean, 13%). Elegant tropical fruit flavours with hints of pineapple and bananas.
Red
Jackmans Landing Shiraz (Australian, 14.5%). Deep and rich in flavour with complex oaky, juicy, berry fruit.
Urmeneta Merlot (Chilean 13.5%). Medium-bodied and well-rounded with ripe plum and cherry flavours.
Rosé
Urmeneta Cabernet Merlot Rosé (Chilean, 13%). Intense elegant aroma with a hint of fresh strawberries and well-balanced fruit flavours.
Sparkling
Follador Prosecco (Italian, 10.5%). Delicious sparkling white wine with a soft light and refreshing taste. Sold in 200ml individual bottles.
Spirits, Liqueurs & Other Strong Stuff
We have an excellent selection of spirits including the expected gins, vodka, rums (including the landlord's favourite - the potent Wood's 100 Navy Rum).
For the whisky (and whiskey) drinkers, the choice includes Scottish blends, half a dozen single malts from across Scotland, Irish and American varieties, so you are sure to have something to your taste.
Soft Drinks
We don't neglect those of you who don't want (or can't have) an alcoholic drink either, you will find the usual cordials, fruit juices, mixers, Coca Cola, Schweppes lemonade, J2O's, ginger beer, still and sparkling mineral water, Appletiser, and Red Bull.
Hot Drinks
We have a range of hot drinks available - perfect for the colder days. Alongside mugs of refreshing tea, we have hot chocolate and speciality coffee's: cappuchino, cafe latte, cafe mocha, or just plain black or white.
